Our booksih buddies are back to suggest books that you can read during a readathon! They might not allwork for the reading challenges, but they work for our reading joy!!
Aissata Amadou: Elizabeth Acevedo has two excellent poetry collections that you should definitely pick up on audiobook if you can because she narrates them herself. Her debut was The Poet X and her most recent is called Clap When You Land. Both are some of my lifetime favorites.
Nidhi Reddy: Jen Wang! She has two graphic novels out that are both short, sweet, cute, and really haertfelt. The Princess and the Dressmaker is about a cross-dressing prince and makes my eyes teary every year :,) Her other book, In Real Life, discusses gaming, poverty, and culture-clash.
Jaime Morgan: I am recommending Heavy by Kiese Laymon, it's short and truly a perfect nonfiction memoir. It is great on audio as well!!! For fiction, I am recommending Brit Bennett's The Vanishing Half, it is not short but trust me you will not want to put it down. Also recommending for fiction, a few short novels that are forever favorites -- The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead, My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite and The Mothers by Brit Bennett.
Anisha G: The Heartstopper comics are the perfect readathon book to pick up. They are light, fluffy, easy to read and very quick! The art style is gorgeous and it features such cute friendships and romances.
Noelle Gallagher: I mean...where to begin?! If you love a good mystery I will sing the praises of Misery by Stephen King until the day I die (though not by Annie Wilkes I hope). Ready Player One is some of the best fun I've had while reading. I also believe in the magic of a celebrity memoir narrated by said celebrity. Some of my favorites are Almost Interesting by David Spade, Bossypants by Tina Fey and Becoming by Michelle Obama (is she a 'celebrity'? The Queen of My Heart seems to be a better title).
Bintou F: I think it's important to have some short books in the mix, so you can set yourself up for success. I would recommend "We Should All Be Feminists" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It's a good read and it can be finished in an hour! I have also read "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho in a couple hours, and I loved it! Some of the most engrossing, cant put down books I've read this year were "Kindred" by Octavia E. Butler, "A Criminal Defense" by William Myers Jr. and "The Green Mile" by Stephen King. Also, I know a good contemporary romance will get me out of any reading slump I get into- usually in the middle of the month- becasue they're just so fun and easy to read! I scan Kindle Unlimited for these gems at least once a month. I've been on a real Amy Daws kicker lately.
Kevin Kelly: Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda! I'm biased because this is my all time favourite book! However, it is super fast to read and is a perfect book to read for a readathon! There's also a movie adaptation so you get to watch the movie afterwards!
Sofia Casanova: I love a good mix of romance, fantasy and non-fiction. For romance, I would recommend Courtney Milan's Brothers Sinister series if you like historical, The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang and Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert for contemporary, and anything by Alyssa Cole if you're stuck. For fantasy, I would definitely go with the Strange the Dreamer duology by Laini Taylor, The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern or The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K Jemisin. And for non-fiction, I recently loved Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall which was so informative and easy to read, and I devoured Trick Mirror by Jia Tolentino.
Ariel: The Hunger Games: I know you've already read it, but how long has it been? I reread this book a few months ago for the first time in years and IT BLEW MY MIND! Most importantly, I couldn't put it down! It's fast-paced and exciting, perfect for a readathon.
Raeleen: The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, Nimona by Noelle Stevenson, and Dear Martin by Nic Stone. They are the types of books you will not want to put down!
